Processing Options: BIOXBIOX is short for ‘biological oxidisation’ and is a proprietary method developed by Goldfields Ltd to make highly refractory sulphide ores amenable to cyanidisation.
As the name suggests, BIOX uses a special bacteria that consume sulphides and in so doing liberate the fine gold locked within them. The process involves specialised equipment needed to maintain the ideal conditions for the bacteria doing the work. Due to the technical complexity of running BIOX effectively, much effort and skill is required to incorporate this technique. Like roasting, the cost of BIOX is quite high and only justified on higher grade ores. |
